How about a OO7 trivia quiz?
Try these five from the film version of Dr. No:

1)True or False: Anthony Dawson, who plays Professor Dent in Dr. No, went on to be the hands--but not the voice--of Blofeld in From Russia, With Love and Thunderball.

2)Who was Ian Fleming's original choice to play OO7?

3)True or False: Brocolli considered Cary Grant for the part of OO7, but decided against it since he wanted to do a series and have a continuing actor.

4)Bond is given his trademark Walther PPK in this film. What was his original gun before the PPK?

5)Sylvia Trench appears for the first time in this film. The idea was to have the character continously show up in the films and try to make love to Bond, only to be disappointed by his being called away on a mission. How many more films does this character appear in?
Tom Mason (4/19/03 11:37 am)
here are my guesses.....
1. Dawson was sometimes credited and sometimes not in a couple of the Bond films as the "voice" of Blofeld.
2 Fleming wanted David Niven for the part and not an unknow actor like Connery.
3. To my knowlege, Grant was offered the part, but refused it as he was getting older and winding down his film career and did not want to commit to a series.
4.Bond's favorite toy gun was a Beretta which was considered too light and small a weapon.
5. Sylvia Trench was meant to have a continuing role in the Bond films but only appeared in Dr. No and then again very briefly in From Russia With Love.

Who played the very first James Bond?

Todd 3D (4/19/03 3:25 pm)

Tom...close...very close.

1)Is TRUE. Someone else (I forget who now) did the voice of Blofeld, but those are Dawson's hands.

2)Yes, David Niven was Fleming's top choice. Brocoli, it is said, considered him too old at the time. Of course, he went on to play Bond in Casino Royale (1967).

3)Also TRUE. Grant was considered, but Brocoli wanted someone who would stick around for a while.

4)The Berretta .25 was the gun of choice. M references that the gun jammed on Bond's last mission. Reading the books, that did indeed happen.

5)Sylvia Trench was ditched after just two movies.

Bonus Round Questions:
1)Which Alfred Hitchcock movie was Anthony Dawson in?

2)TRUE OR FALSE: Chuck Feldman wanted to get Connery to play Bond in Casino Royale, but Connery said no.

3)Which later Bond was considered for the role in 1962?

4)M references that the gun jammed on Bond's last mission. Reading the books, that did indeed happen. In what book did this happen in?

5)Sylvia Trench is waiting for Bond in his apartment in this film. In what other film do we see OO7's apartment?

In answer to jadm's question: American actor Barry Nelson played an Americanized version of Bond in 1954's Casino Royale.

Bonus Question: Who was the original Le Chiffre?

Tom Mason (4/19/03 3:56 pm)

I know that Orson Welles played him (Le Chiffre) in Casino Royale the movie and in the tv version that preceeded it, Peter Lorre played that part.

diduseeimfly (4/19/03 4:03 pm)

Anthony Dawson was coerced by Ray Milland to try to kill Grace Kelly in "Dial M For Murder."

jadm (4/19/03 6:55 pm)

Yes, Todd is right with Barry Nelson..and Tom is right with Lorre.
