More Horses
We gave the white horses a good workout. Is it time to start naming the movie cowboy and black horse teams?
Who wants to post the first pair?

The first combination that comes to mind is my favorite b-western cowboy star. Allan "Rocky" Lane and his horse Blackjack. Smiley

Wild Bill Elliott rode a black horse, Thunder, when he was Red Ryder. So did Lane when he became RR--in fact, I seem to remember hearing that Thunder and Black Jack were the same horse; Lane continued riding him when the Ryder series ended.

Here's thanks to my pal at the Bar 20 for gettin this thread going for me while I was ridin back home from his ranch. Looks like we're startin another good list.
Although Bob Custer rode a horse named Black Jack in the silent movies, Allan Lane's Black Jack got more attention. Even the critics liked that stallion. And a writer in a family magazine got a kick out of the quick way Lane got aboard him. Curley says Lane got a bum rap about his ridin later on. He'll get no argument on that from this wrangler.
I recollect that more than one horse played Thunder in the Red Ryder movies. O' course those pictures stretched out for a heap a years. One thing was sorta special about the Thunder character. He seems to have been the first horse, except for the comedians like Spark Plug and Horse Collar, who started off in the comic strips, then moved to Hollywood. For Champ and Trigger it was the other way around.

The Saturday Westerns had two heroes who specialized in usin' the bullwhip. One rode a black horse and one rode a white one. Who were the cowboys and what were the names, and colors, of their horses?
If you hanker to, you can answer part of the question to get things goin'.

He's right on Whip Wilson. But didn't Lash LaRue ride a horse called Rush?

Lash LaRue's primary horse was "Black Diamond". He also rode a horse named "Rush". I should have added that in my first post. Smiley
