Character Actor Question
Here is an easy question, off the top of your head, can you identify the voice of the fox who turned Pinocchio's head with promises of fame, fortune and fun? He also worked in many classic films of the forties with his comedic talents. Extra points if you can identify the comedic romp from RKO with Cary Grant and Kathryn Hepburn that he appeared in.

Walter Catlett? He also plays Colonel Plug, the banjo-playing stool pigeon, in DAVY CROCKETT AND THE RIVER PIRATES. And I think he was in BRINGING UP BABY, too.

Walter Catlett has always been one of my favourite character actors. Two other performances that comes to mind are his appearance as a drunk in a night club scene with Gary Cooper in Frank Capra's production of "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town" (1936)
The other appearance is in William Wyler's production of "Friendly Persuasion" (1956) again with Gary Cooper. Catlett played the gentleman that sold Jess Birdwell, Sr. (Gary Cooper's role) the organ. Samantha, (Dorothy McGuire) wouldn't let Jess Sr. & Catlett bring the organ in the house as she was a Quaker minister and musical instruments were forbidden. Those scenes are some of the funniest in the picture. As usual, Walter Catlett was at his best. I have this classic film in my home video library and watch it frequently.

Ron McKnight.

You gentlemen are right on......Walter Catlett was the answer and I agree with you on his talent. I watched him as the Sheriff the other morning on Bringing Up Baby and he was fun to watch. Much as I would like to think otherwise, Bringing Up Baby was not the boxoffice hit that I would have liked it to be. What was the next film that Grant and Hepburn worked on together?

The next picture that Cary Grant & Katharine Hepburn appeared in was "The Philadelphia Story" released by MGM in 1940.
Jimmy Stewart rec'd an Oscar for his role in this film. Katharine Hepburn owned the film rights to "The Philadelphia Story."

Who can ever forget that look on Cary Grant's face when he reached a boiling point and put his hand on Hepburn's face and pushed her through the door? It always reminded me of Cagney smashing that grapefruit into Mae Clarke's face in Public Enemy.
