With so many great fantasy and science fiction films under his belt, why did Ray Harryhausen decide to retire from making films?

Ray Harryhausen's advancing age plus what producer would want to expend the time or cost for Ray's traditional stop-motion when latest technology is faster, cheaper with "better results"? Don't get me wrong - eventho I think computer monsters look great, I miss the endearing jerky stop-motion of Sinbad, the Ymir, the 5 armed octopus, Jason, etc.

Ray Harryhausen was getting a bit long in the tooth, but he also saw the oncoming CGI method of creating dinosaurs and monsters and just felt that the movie public would not accept his style of stop-action films anymore. I still love his movies and have many of them on DVD and they never fail to hold my interest and entertain me.
