Gulliver's Song
"Faithful Forever" (by Leo Robin and Ralph Rainger) was the principal melody of the 1939 animated feature, "Gulliver's Travels." What was unusual about the song?

You are showing admirable restraint, CC.

Just a guess. Was it done with a theremin? Smiley
Maestro Tionelli

An interesting guess, Smiley, but not the answer. It was basically a vocal number.
Give it another try if you like.

Was it not a combination of the two songs from the countries at war. I believe the war started about which song was to be played at the royal wedding.
Maestro Tionelli

Right you are, James. A blending of the songs of prince and princess of rival countries.
In formal terminology, "Faithful Forever" was a successful integration of music and plot-resolution.
It wasn't just a random love song.
By the way, do you know the names of the man and woman who sang "Faithful Forever"? They were once quite popular on radio.

I do not recall the movie too well, but I do remember a name of Jessica Dragonette (a name that would stick in one's mind). I do not know the other "team" member.

Scratch "team." You said nothing about a singing team... vagaries of my mind

Did Jessica Dragonette sing little torch songs?........
MT

Jessica Dragonette was what might be called a light classical singer. Though a broadcasting star in her own right, and not truly his singing partner, Jessica was often a guest on the radio program most associated with her "Gulliver" prince.
Who was that handsome fellow?

How about the initials LR as a hint? And I don't mean the Lone Ranger.......

Ok Tom: I've been on an 0 for run of late. How about Lanny Ross for this answer? Smiley
Tom Mason
(8/31/02 10:51 am)
Smiley.......you got it right......now Maestro Tionelli will be mad at me for giving that hint.....
But you are correct in that it was Lanny Ross......
Maestro Tionelli
(8/31/02 2:18 pm)
The maestro will restrain his artistic fury out of deference to the brilliant Smiley.
Ivy-League educated Lanny Ross was the principal singer for many years on radio's "Showboat," at one time known as the "Maxwell House Showboat." The popular program, naturally enough, followed the pattern of Mississippi river entertainment.
