Today I received my VCI edition of DRUMS OF FU_MANCHU DVD. It is by far and away the best print I've seen thus far. Not perfect, but I do have to give it a 9 out 10 with 10 being the highest and best. It's well worth the investment.
Andy SHAMBA Southard (4/1/03 6:14 pm)Dr. Tobar:
Have you gotten " SECRET AGENT X-9 " ( 1945)also ? That and Drums were supposed to be out at the same time.
I am waiting for my Secret Agent to come now - supposidly it should be here by the end of the week, so I was told.
I'm glad to hear that you rated DRUMS at a 9 - I'm looking forward to another great DVD. ... One can get carried away with those wonderful DVDs, as my last count told me 677 of them..(LoL)...
Will be looking forward to the chat on the 8th of April.
Just got the new VCI DVD release of "Drums of Fu Manchu".
It appears to be a new and improved transfer of the same film print that has been around on tape for some time now. The faces are still a bit washed out in some scenes, over all picture quality is a bit soft, but all in all the best quality available on this serial, so far.
This title (one of the top 10 serials ever made) is a must for all serial, Mystery and adventure fans to own and l can recommend it very highly.
The extras (duplicated on the second disk) consist of bios of the actors and directors, a few stills, and a commentary by the editor of the magazine "Scarlet Street".
