I'm a great fan of Roy Thinness' The Invaders. It was like The Fugitive with aliens (I'll bet that's how Quinn Martin pitched it to the execs).
I can't wait for a DVD boxed set of the series (which I believed comprised 43 episodes spread over two seasons).
Haven't seen it since about 1968 and I don't think that I saw too much of the 2nd series. But the first series concerned David Vincent on his own trying to stop the alien invasion and get proof of their existence to the authorities.
Come on guys, there must be someone out there who can share nostalgia with me over The Invaders
Tom Mason (3/15/03 6:21 am)Working at ABC Hlywd, I remember Roy Thinnes from his early days of working at the main lot doing General Hospital.
He played Dr. Phil Brewer from 1963-1966. In 1967 he started work on The Invaders. It was the last great 1960's series and it was inspired by the "Invasion of the body snatchers, using the elements of conspiracy, science-fiction and horror mixed with a touch of reality. This show was produced by one of ABC's favorite producers at the time: Quinn Martin. He had created The Untouchables, The F.B.I. and the Fugitive for the network.
Only 43 episodes were produced and today they are cult favorites. Hopefully, in the near future, they will be available on DVD. Right now, all that was released was the 49 minute pilot show "The Beachead" on VHS by Republic Studios and that seems to be out of print now.
In 1995 a mini series based on this show was done starring Scott Bakula with a token appearance by Roy Thinnes. It was a disappointment. It was also released by Republic and was 180 minutes long on two tapes. This one seems to have gone out of print too.
Thinnes went on to do a lot of TV acting and appeared on many of Quinn Martin's shows as well as many of the top rated shows as a guest star.
Thanks for the info, Tom. The 1995 miniseries (?) certainly was a disappointment.
