Well, the WB has aired its "take" on updating the Lone Ranger for modern tastes. Thank goodness, even this horrid version cost them 2 mil and that will probably preclude the possibility of it becoming a series. For a comprehensive review of this film, visit my Crimson Collector site and read the review by the Crimson Webmaster. Clayton Moore is probably spinning in his grave. All this is further evidence that they should not fool with America's Icons..........leave them be.

Yesterday I sat down and watched the new WB LR movie pilot all the way through. There are few nice spots and just a whole lot of "what the hell were they thinking of moments."
Some of these are...(watch out, there are spoilers here)
Why the name change? Wasn't Reid good enough?
Why the shoddy costume (if you can call it that?) no style.
Why the dual identity?
Why does he ride Silver when he is not wearing the mask?
In the big shoot-out scene he clearly is firing two guns, but when the smoke clears, he is only wearing one gun.
Where are the silver bullets? The fancy pearl handled silver finished guns?
He seems rooted in one town to fight a permanent villain who keeps his identy hidden under a nice guy front. Not on the move to fight injustice all over the west.
Obviously, a lot of the changes are for budgetary reasons. One town...one set. The dual identity allows him to be a resident of the town and interact with its population....especially the females. Then there is that hot sister of Tonto that he is making eyes at as well.
Tonto is quite adept at kung fu kicking and flying leaps.
Early on, the LR character is impetuous and whiney and shows little sense. The Indians have all the smarts and tutor him.
Good points......the best part of the show was Tonto and the Indians. Tonto has a quiet dignity and intelligence that is not offensive to native Americans. Wes Studee as the Indian Shaman is quite good. Tonto's relationship with the LR character is deep and at times moving.
All of these points are probably moot as the expense of producing a live action western turned out to be more than WB was willing to bear. We probably will not see more of this new Lone Ranger "re-imagining".
And did I mention the lousy semi rock music in the backround??? The William Tell Overature does appear at the end and sounds like it was done on a synthesizer.
To respond QUICKLY and to the point : I saw the new version ofThe Lone Ranger -crap - it was hoorible ! I'm amazed that I watched it all the way through. .. It was very disappointing to see how they butchered the Lone Ranger memory. ... Sad.
Till another time...Shamba.
From the reviews of this show, I am glad that my Direct TV doesn't carry local tv stations.
Since the new Tonto is of Canadian Cree heritage, his thoughts on the meaning of the word, "Kemosabe," describes the new show, "Horse's Butt."
I have heard so much bad about this movie and I missed it. I would like to see it just to see how bad it was. Are there any plans to re-run it as with the Christopher Reeve appearance in "Smallville"? Thanks. Smiley
Crimson Collector (3/4/03 12:44 pm)The people to take the rap for the production of the new Lone Ranger flick shown on the WB the other nite are Primarily Entertainment in association with Turner Television.
diduseeimfly (3/6/03 9:45 am) Reply Re: New LR Just out of curiosity. In a b/w promo photo of the "new guy," he is wearing a dark shirt. I know that all LR fans are more familiar with Clayton Moore's powder blue. The old serials show him wearing off white. I think I remember the Sunday comics had LR wearing red/orange. Then there were the old LR books with ilustrations of him wearing a vest over a colored shirt. So. What color was the new guy wearing?

Well, you could hardly call the new Lone Ranger's clothing an "outfit." He is wearing a brown stetson, wears a brown leather mask supposedly made from his dead Ranger brother's vest. His shirt is a darkish blue resembling denim. He carries one gun in a plain brown leather holster. The six-shooter is nothing outstanding, just what appears to be a Colt 45 in gun metal blue.
The trousers are non-descript...they could be jeans of something similar. In short; nothing special, certainly nothing like we saw former Lone Rangers wear.
If I remember correctly the comic book version was pretty much the same as Clayton Moore's TV outfit.
On the other hand Tonto's buckskin outfit has remained pretty much the same across all the differnet media. I can't speak for the WB thing since I'm smarter than a lot of you and didn't even consider looking at it. Not even for a second

P.S. Cross your fingers. I got a box coming via UPS and it should be what we've been waiting for
El Shaitan, Sir.
Dare we old Lone Ranger fans hope as to the cryptic message about the box that is being delivered by UPS? Is it encased in silver? If so, then I wish I was a contortionist so that I can cross more than just my fingers!
I will burn a thousand incense to the gods tonight!
First of all, don't "sir" me. I worked for a living. Oops, little military type humor there
I'm sorry. It has nothing to do with the LR. It's the other serial, and it ain't here yet

At present there are no plans by the WB to re-run the movie, not that we'd all be rushing to the VCR's to tape it - HEH.
I'm sure however that it will resurface sometime this summer.
