The Greatest Adventure by John Taine Ace Books 1st Paperback Edition
So, the man is going to stab the dinosaur with the knife to save the damsel in distress. A surprisingly poor cover. On first glance, it does grab your attention, but the more you look at it, the worse it gets.
One of Wollheim's interests was in reprinting the great science fiction novels of the past, many of which had only magazine publication. Many of these novels were presented under the heading "Science Fiction Classic".
Originally published in 1926, The Greatest Adventure is one of the best of Taine's novels and concerns a lost world that is discovered in Antartica. Dinosaurs and other creatures abound. It still holds up well today.
John Taine was the pseudonym of Dr. Eric Temple Bell, a renowned mathematician and professor of mathematics at Cal Tech. |
