     In actuality, 7 Footprints is a rather tame fantasy/adventure novel with Satan as the main antagonist.
     Abraham Merritt, a pioneer author of science-fantasy (the original copyright on 7 Footprints is 1928), made his living for many years as editor of The American Weekly, the flamboyant Sunday magazine of the Hearst newspapers.
     Although Merritt's works were all in print well into the 70s, his work has not aged as well as some, and very little of his material is in print today.
