If you decide to participate in an auction you take the responsibility yourself of authenticating the piece you buy. Sellers themselves may not be aware of the quality of a particular piece. That being said, however, you can also find rare and unusual items, and sometimes a great bargain, by purchasing collector's glass this way. It is recommended that you enter the highest amount you would be willing to bid for any item (which is kept secret till the end of the auction) as your first bid, and resign yourself to the idea that somone else who may bid higher will win the piece, but if they bid below your top amount, you win.
